3 Must-Read Books for New Managers!
Are you a new manager? Or an experienced manager who wants to check out some good practices? Or you are a manager of managers who need to coach and mentor a new manager? Let me tell you about 3 influential books that are going to improve your approach to management.
A few weeks ago one of my friends asked what books I would recommend for new managers. And I decided to answer that in a video that you can watch here:
A very large part of learning and getting comfortable with leadership depends on practice. There’s no doubt that nothing beats the hands-on experience of solving problems and supporting your people.
However spending the remaining 10–20% (“76.23% of all stats are made up on the spot” 🙃) on theory would influence how best we approach the hands-on part. And good books can be great partners in that.
In this video I talk about the three books that I would have recommended if I had met my mid-twenties self who would have been preparing for my first engineering management position.
- The Manager’s Path by Camille Fournier
- The Making of a Manager by Julie Zhuo
- Resilient Management by Lara Hogan
Please let me know if you have some other books that you would recommend to new managers down in the comments.
Thank you for reading.
